Installing a lace frontal wig at home might seem intimidating at first — but with the right tools and a little patience, you can achieve a salon-quality look without leaving your house. This beginner-friendly guide walks you through every step, from prep to finish.
What You'll Need
- Lace frontal wig (13x4, 13x5, or 13x6)
- Wig cap (nude or skin-tone)
- Got2b Glued spray or lace adhesive/glue
- Scissors (small, sharp)
- Edge brush and rat-tail comb
- Alcohol wipes or scalp protector
- Blow dryer
- Bobby pins
- Concealer or foundation (to match your scalp tone)
Step 1: Prep Your Natural Hair
Lay your natural hair as flat as possible. Braid it down in cornrows or flat twists, then put on a wig cap that matches your skin tone. Smooth out any bumps — a flat base is the foundation of a seamless install.
Step 2: Prep Your Skin
Clean your hairline with an alcohol wipe to remove any oils or residue. This helps the adhesive bond better and last longer. If you have sensitive skin, apply a scalp protector first and let it dry completely.
Step 3: Try On the Wig First
Before applying any glue, put the wig on and position it where you want your hairline to sit. Use bobby pins to hold it in place temporarily. Check the fit in the mirror — adjust until it looks natural.
Step 4: Trim the Lace
This is the most important step for a natural look. Using small scissors, carefully cut along the lace edge, following the natural curve of your hairline. Cut slowly and close to the hairline — leave a tiny bit of lace rather than cutting too close. Uncut lace is the most common beginner mistake.
Step 5: Apply the Adhesive
Apply a thin layer of Got2b Glued spray or lace glue along your hairline. Let it get tacky (about 30–60 seconds). For extra hold, apply a second thin layer and let it get tacky again before pressing the lace down.
Step 6: Press and Secure the Lace
Starting from the center of your forehead, press the lace down firmly along your hairline. Work outward toward the temples. Use the back of an edge brush or a rat-tail comb to press the lace flat. Use a blow dryer on low heat to help the adhesive set faster.
Step 7: Style and Blend
Once the lace is secure, style the wig as desired. Use a small amount of concealer or foundation along the lace line to blend it with your skin tone for a truly undetectable finish. Lay your baby hairs with an edge brush for a polished look.
Tips for a Long-Lasting Install
- Avoid sweating heavily right after installation — give the adhesive time to fully cure.
- Wrap your wig with a silk scarf at night to preserve the style and protect the lace.
- To remove, use a lace adhesive remover — never pull the lace off dry.
- Clean the lace after each wear to remove glue buildup before reinstalling.
Glueless Option
