Behind the Scenes: Our Quality Control Process Before Every Shipment

What really happens before your hair order ships? Get an inside look at Foxen Hair’s five-stage quality control process — from raw material inspection to pre-shipment batch review.

When you place a wholesale hair order, you’re not just buying a product — you’re trusting a supplier with your brand reputation. Every unit that reaches your customer reflects on you. That’s why quality control isn’t a checkbox at the end of production. It’s a process that runs through every stage of manufacturing.

Here’s an inside look at what a rigorous QC process should look like — and what we do at Foxen Hair before every shipment leaves our facility.

Stage 1: Raw Material Inspection

Quality starts before a single strand is processed. When raw hair arrives at our facility, it goes through an initial inspection that covers:

  • Hair type verification — confirming 100% human hair, cuticle alignment, and origin consistency
  • Texture and weight checks — ensuring the incoming material matches the specified density and feel
  • Visual inspection for damage — identifying any dryness, breakage, or inconsistency before processing begins

Substandard raw material never makes it to production. This is the first line of defense.

Stage 2: In-Process Quality Checks

As hair moves through processing — washing, conditioning, texturizing, and coloring — QC checkpoints are built into each stage:

  • Post-wash inspection — checking for shedding, texture retention, and moisture balance
  • Texture consistency review — ensuring body wave patterns, curl definition, or straight alignment meets spec
  • Color accuracy check (for colored units) — matching against approved color swatches before proceeding

Any unit that doesn’t meet spec at this stage is pulled from the production line — not passed along and hoped for the best.

Stage 3: Lace Quality Inspection

Lace is one of the most critical components of a frontal or wig — and one of the most variable. Our lace QC covers:

  • Knot density and consistency — ensuring even distribution across the lace panel
  • Lace integrity check — inspecting for tears, thin spots, or uneven edges
  • HD vs. transparent verification — confirming the correct lace type is used for each SKU
  • Hairline natural appearance — reviewing the baby hair placement and perimeter for a realistic finish

Stage 4: Final Unit Inspection

Before packaging, every unit undergoes a final inspection:

  • Shedding test — running fingers through the hair to check for excessive shedding
  • Tangle resistance check — combing through to confirm smooth, tangle-free movement
  • Length verification — measuring against spec to confirm accurate length labeling
  • Overall appearance review — checking for any visual defects, inconsistencies, or packaging issues

Units that pass all four stages are cleared for packaging. Units that don’t are either reworked or rejected — never shipped.

Stage 5: Pre-Shipment Batch Review

Before any order ships, a final batch review is conducted:

  • Random unit pulls from the completed order for a final spot-check
  • Packaging integrity verification — ensuring units are properly sealed and protected for transit
  • Order accuracy confirmation — verifying SKUs, quantities, and specifications match the purchase order

Only after this final review is an order cleared for shipment.

Why This Matters for Wholesale Buyers

A rigorous QC process means:

  • Fewer returns and complaints — your customers receive what they paid for
  • Consistent reorders — every batch matches the last, so you can scale with confidence
  • Brand protection — the product you sell reflects your standards, not just your supplier’s

When you’re evaluating a hair supplier, ask specifically about their QC process at each stage. Vague answers — or a process that only checks quality at the end — are red flags.
